Bible Text: Ephesians 4 vs 31-32 “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
Our topic today is “Let Go”.
As the year 2019 is coming to an end and embarking on the journey of the year 2020, I want to tell you that you need to LET GO.
You need to let go of all grievances, Discord, disunity, anger, malice, hatred, disbelief, Laziness, self-righteousness e.t.c., if you don’t let go you are likely going to remain in the same level you were in the year 2019.
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY LET GO?
- Let go simply means to someone or something go.
- It can also mean to allow someone or something to escape or go free
- We can refer to it as relinquishing one’s grip on something or someone.
- It means being willing to allow life to carry you to a new place, even a deeper more rendition to self.
Letting go does not have to do with material things or goods but some of the stuff we hold on to which holds us back from experiencing the power and presence of God.
Naturally, human beings tend to accumulate stuff
- We accumulate clothes and electronics
- We accumulate materials thinking they will be useful eventually
- We accumulate hurts, seeds of discontentment, and jealousies
- We sometimes accumulate grudges
We are going to talk about letting go of some of the stuff that weighs us down and holds us back and so that we can live the life that would be honoring to God.
Note: It is better to have less of what doesn’t matter and more of what does matter.
The Book of Ecclesiastes 4 vs6 “better is a handful of quietness than two hands full of toil and a striving after wind.
According to the book of Luke 12:15 “Beware and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions”.
Be on your guard against all kinds of greed, because life does not consist in an abundance of Possessions.
WHY YOU HAVE TO LET GO.
God desires His people to let go of past circumstances, unpleasant history, and lame excuses. For forty years Moses had shoved aside his ties to royalty, his sense of justice, and his aspiration for reformation, but God directly said “Go” to Moses three times in their exchange. Exodus 3:10, 3:16, 4:12.
- You are not what you have
- You are not what you drink
- You are not what you wear
- You are not what you own
- You are not the stuff you have
What you don’t have is exactly what you need to be happy fulfilled joyful, significant, to feel good about yourself, to be important, to be Popular.
God wants us to let go of everything for him, thinking we can do it alone leads to failure. 1 Peter 5vs7 “ cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you”. God knows what we are passing through, all he desires is to let go and allow him to handle it.
According to the bible text “Ephesians 4 vs 31-32 “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
God is saying we should let go of all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and slander, these are things that can hinder the fulfillment of God’s promises in our life.
As Children of God, we have heard a lot of promises from God but for one reason they have not come to the past and we always wonder why it is so, sometimes questions like is it the word of God or is the prophet real?
Not knowing that much fault lies with us. The bible says “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?” Romans6 vs 1.
You want God to bless you, yet are not working for God, his words say He is the rewarder of those that diligently seek him. Have you been diligent in your service to God? Hebrew 11 vs 6
You want your Glory to shine; you are not ready to do away with the old self. Can you put new wine in an old wineskin?
You are seeking for the fruit of the womb, you are seeking for it in your way? Are you full of doubt? Let go of your fear and doubt Now. Put on the amour of faith and give yourself as a reasonable sacrifice to God. Romans 12vs1
For you to get anything good from God in the new year, you need to decide to let go of all the things you held to that are causing a rift between you and God.
The bible says “ No sinner will see the face of the Lord, and as a sinner how do you expect your prayers to be answered. Just let Go now.
You need to let go of all the things you are holding on to that are not glorifying God in your life and give room for new things to come in.
God is a generous God and blesses us. It’s wrong when our life is defined by the material things we owned and we believe our happiness and fulfillment come from these material things.
We can’t serve God with Marmon, God should be the overall head and controller in our life, family, businesses, finances, health.
I say Let go and Let God.
To be continued…….
